MANCHESTER UNITED DEFENCE SHOWING SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT

Manchester United have endured a frustrating season with the club outside the top 4 places after a series of poor results. However, one area where the team has gotten better is not surprisingly where they spent largely in the summer.

Which is actually in the defence where the club spent over £130 million on two defenders who have transformed the backline. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made United fans to forget about former captain Antonio Valencia.

The former Crystal Palace defender is reliable in defence and has the ability to attack in equal proportion. He has been able to add stability in the defence, with his pace and man on man-marking making him a quality addition to the team.

Harry Maguire meanwhile has had a mixed stint with the England international moving to the club on a big-money move. The former Leicester City defender has been steady in the defence in partnership with Victor Lindelof.

However, there have been times when his lack of pace has exposed him against quicker opposition forwards. The game against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup is a good example as MichyBathshuayi was able to take advantage of the lack of pace of the Englishman to score.

Nevertheless, United have looked stronger defending setpieces and Maguire has added a sense of calm in the defence. David De Gea is another player that has regained his form this season.

The Worldclass goalkeeper has been at his imperious best making saves in the defence. This could be as a result of the new deal that he signed in the summer which made him the highest-paid stopper in the league.

Ashley Young is another player that has been up to his best this campaign with the England international filling in for Luke Shaw.
