Swansea Sign Montero

Swansea became the latest Premier League club to sign an Ecuadorian winger after they brought in Jefferson Montero for around £ 4 million. The 24-year-old comes to the Premier League outfit after having been convinced by Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia. Valencia remains as one of the first Ecuadorian players to have made a profound impact in the Premier League. After impressing in a couple of years at Wigan, he made the move to United for £ 16 million. The decline of players like Nani and Ryan Giggs has made Valencia as one of the important wingers at United.
After agreeing the contract to play for Swansea, Montero claimed that Valencia played a huge role in convincing him to move to England. The 24-year-old will be coming into a Swansea team that is expected to struggle in the Premier League just like Valencia’s Wigan did a few years ago. However, the youngster has the capability to put himself in the shop window if he performs well in his first season. Montero has been playing with the Mexican club Monarcas Morelia. Another player who has come from the Mexican league is Javier Hernandez, who did extremely well in his first season at Manchester United.
Swansea begin the new season with an away trip to United where Montero could make his debut. “I was impressed by Swansea when I played against them in a friendly while I was at Real Betis. Their style is very attractive. Antonio Valencia also spoke very well about the team, he said they are always a tough team to play against. We’ve spoken recently and we joked about Swansea and Manchester United playing in the first game. So that will be an interesting match for us. He also told me how great the league is,” said Montero.
